Why did the Jews kill so many people?

I don´t know much History , but reading the Old Testmant and watching the news, I have wondered why the Jews have killed so many people?
Tehy killed those peoples who lived where they arrived from Egypt to get their promised Land and until today they are killing palestinians.

well. first of all you are mixing the stories of the Jewish-Christian myth called the Bible and some events you think you understand enough to comment on.

the stories from the Bible have a lot purposes but not proven as a fact. to complain about the ancient Hebrew for killing is like to ask why did the Greeks or the Egyptians or any other nation did so. On the other hand you did not ask a thing about actual killing, by Christians and Muslims that actually happen during the last 2000 years. I wonder why.

The fight between our days Israel and the Palestinians is not just about land and both sides are stupid enough to continue killing each other instead of having peace.

This is the weirdest question I have seen so far on the whole of the internet. The Jews killed "so many people"?? In 60 years of being attacked in their own country they made 60,000 victims (who attacked THEM!!) while they themselves were slaughtered as obedient fellow citizens in other countries than Israel in the MILLIONS! in 5 year's time.

You are talking about a time long ago - killing people and taking their land was common at that time. The Jews both won and lost wars at that time. Their belief was that their God had given them lands and they therefore had every right to do whatever it took to hold onto that real estate.

The Holocaust occurs over 2000 years after the Biblical times depicted in the Old Testament and therefore has no bearing on the motivations of the Israelites.

Comparing times isn't a valid point to make anyway. You are completely right DavisGL. Other consensus make for other rules. Those days were different. We would think different if we would live then.

Still, I keep on finding this a strange question, especially seen in the light of how many other nations killed other peoples.

Well, as a teacher I don't mix topics of discussions. So, I didn't ask why other people killed their neighbours. Right now my concerns are about the killing the jews have promoted during History. Especially because they claim they have chosen by God to promote life, not death. It is very convinient talk about Jews who were killed. But Nobody asks about the ones the have killed. I don't agree with Holocaust and other forms of peoples desctruction. I jsut want to understand why they are killing untill today, and as in biblical times they ara always the victim.

Every human being has the right of self-defense "EVEN" Jews. As a teacher you should know that.

I can understand your point about not mixing topics, I think you should also ask questions that are clear. It is worth keeping in mind that the State of Israel is not the same as "the Jews" - the second includes every Jewish person everywhere in the world. So perhaps your question needs to split into at least two:

1) Why did the ancient Jews invade, conquer and generally go to war so often?

2) Why has the State of Israel been in four major wars, invaded Lebanon, and been involved in countless other violent incidents?

An answer to the first one is:

The ancient Jews didn't go to war any more often than other ancient peoples. Nor were they particularly more successful at it. They conquered fertile land and took for their own - they, like many ancient people, believed their deity gave them the right to take those lands. Their deity also called on them to be fruitful and multiple - that is to increase their own population. As was common then and now, many people (included the Jews) placed a high value on the lives of their own people and a far lower value on the lives of others.

If you are really a teacher, please learn to spell simple words and use proper sentence structure as you make my highschool teacher roll in her grave Also to answer the old testament question: If you really read it through then you would have seen that God instructed the Hebrews to kill certain people and they were heeding his instructions. God chose Israel to bring the Messiah into the world and he first gave them the land they now fight over. They will eventually control every square inch of that property and no one will stop them when God does open that door. I as a christain am a great fan of the Jews and appreciate how God used such a small people in such a large way.

Yes you are completely and totally correct in that you don't know very much about history,so no arguments there.
The answer is that compared with the arabs,the Persians,the Mongols,the Chinese,the Europeans and just about any ethnic or religious group that you can think barring maybe the Australian Aborigines, they didn't.

I'm gona chime in here and say a couple things:

1-look at the title of the page. "War History Fans". Look at the forum the thread is in. Says "WW2" meaning Wold War Two. I'd say Religion related issues such as the ones presented in this thread so far are well out of scope in here, but ok, I'll let this pass a bit because the thread comes from a long time ago.

2-that the thread is still open and that I don't have any intention to close it up just by sakes of it, doesn't mean that this is a place to conduct a theologic or religious discussion, or to debate passages of the Bible. There are ,I'm sure, more appropiate places to do that, such as the Off Topic Discussion forum. I'm leaning towards moving this up there, to be honest, but I'll keep it right here for now, waiting to see which direction the thread takes after my post.

3-nothing in the rules about it, but I'm starting to get a bit puzzled (not to mention a bit saturated) by discussions involving Jews. Hitler and killing Jews, why german killed jews, why Hitler hated jews, why jews killed people...Please, stop it, because I think it's enough and that there are already enough topics (and answers to its questions within) about jews and WW2. Unless other mods or admins disagree with me, from now on I'm gonna close any jew related discussion redirecting them to one of the already existing ones...so please spare me the work and post in the already open ones


And, come on guys, this is a WAR HISTORY FORUM. Meaning we cover a wide, enormous scope, from the first recorded battles in the middle East, up to the latest shots fired at Afghanistan. I undertand the enormity and the atrocity of the Holocaust raises a lot of questions, but one thing is to get an interest in it and another is saturating the forum with this kind of topics.
