I doubt that there will be a consensus about why. Among the reasons are that he hated Jews. It is also a pretty common tactic of authoritarian governments to single out easily identifiable groups to be scapegoats. The Jews also tended to be separate from the society as a whole and appeared richer and with the history of institutional hatred of Jews throughout Europe it was easy to use them as the reason everything was

The Nazi ideology was based on the idea that the Aryan was the supreme human being. Remember that, even at this time, the Jews were not well liked in Germany or, for that matter, in most parts of Europe. They had been discriminated against for centuries, so this was nothing new. However, in the Jews, Hitler saw a scapegoat to explain the problems that Germany had following the defeat in the First World War. This is only part of the explanation of Hitler's actions but it's a start...

Well Jurgen, this question goes back to several things :
1) That since Judaism does not preach conversion of others , Jews will always be small in number, and therefore have always been a small minority in every country.
2) Jewish culture places high value on education and achievement , therefore Jews tend to excel in many fields , including finance and commerce.
3) Because of this success in finance and commerce, they are always envied and often hated .Hitler hated the Jews for this reason, but also was shrewd enough to realise that any economic and social grievances , and therefore criticism of his regime's economic policies could be vanquished through consolidation of all problems in one direction ie. Blame it on the Jews.
4) Finally, Hitler and his cronies put together an organised plan, in January 1942 , at Wannsee to wipe out the Jews. This highly organised extermination was only the ideological PRODUCT of a few at the top levels, but followed or approved of with relish by millions underneath them who owed ultimate allegiance to anything the Fuhrer did or said.

The answer is he didn't - the German people and those in sympathy with their cause did. The Nazi's only made it legal and channeled a confluence of historical circumstances the most prominent of which was eliminationist antisemitism that was endemic to European Christian culture that is old as Christianity itself. The whole culture participated in the holocaust either explicitly or implicitly. You can spend the rest of your life reading about the Holocaust but an excellent recent work with plenty of references is 'Hitler's Willing Executioners: Ordinary Germans and the Holocaust' by Daneil Goldhagen.

Of course the previously mentioned scapegoat reason makes sense. I happened to catch a german language docu-drama on the Wannsee conference that suggested the mass murder was used as a tool for internal political struggles determining who had more power.

Hitler was a political opportunist. He needed mass support and one way to get it was to blame all the problems of Weimar Germany upon the Jews. In Europe, hatred of Jews goes back many centuries. Also remember that the Jews tended to be better educated, possessed a more cohesive culture, and had better jobs than your average German. During the Depression, everybody suffered, but the Jews seemed to be doing okay. Thus, they became targets for those desiring revenge. Hitler took this hatred and used it to gain political power.
Yours truly,

I think that another cause was resent over Jewish aid to the British in WWI. The British came out in support of Jewish homeland in Palestine during WWI and attracted a great deal of financial support for Jews, even Jews residing in Germany. The Germans considered this support to be treacherous.

This is a very complex subject, and I think you have summarized much of it quite well. But there are a couple of other points that may be worth considering. First, people have been killing Jews for centuries; pogroms were common in the Middle Ages and have lasted right up to this century. Second, as Raul Hilberg (_The Destruction of the European Jews_) points out, killing the Jews is the ultimate step in what he calls a process of destruction. That process begins with definition and concentration, and culminates in physical destruction. From another perspective, killing is the ultimate step in a process that underwent a radical change over about 1600 years. First, an attempt was made to convert the Jews. As you intimate, this failed. Second, an attempt was made to expel the Jews. This also failed to a large degree. The third measure was annihilation. Each measure followed from the other. As can be seen, the history of attempting to 'de-Judify' Jews is an ancient one. Hitler took it to its ultimate and lethal stage.
But why did *Hitler* hate the Jews so much? That is a matter of great debate and there is no simple answer. One thing that can be said is that Hitler had demonstrated a pathological hatred for the Jews very early in his career, as early as 1919. Certainly the general antisemitism to be found in Europe, and especially in southern Germany and Austria at that time played a significant role. Was part of it also that he needed a scapegoat for political purposes? Perhaps. But I suggest that the Jews served as Hitler's scapegoat mainly because he hated them so much, as opposed to just using them as a scapegoat for political purposes. The proof of this, in my opoinion, lies in the fact that once he had assumed absolute power, and could have abandoned his anti-Jewish measures, he rather intensified them. He had made it clear as early as 1920 that he felt the Jews should be annihilated and he never wavered from that, up to the day he died.
Just a minor nitpick as well, if I may. The Wannsee conference was not where the decision to exterminate the Jews was made. That conference was held in January 1942, at which time the order to kill the Jews had already been given (around June 1941 according to most estimates, and possibly as early as March 1941), and the killing was already in full swing, i.e. the Einsatzgruppen were killing Jews all over the place. The Wannsee conference was where the administrative organization was finalized. Hitler was not present; in fact, none of the key Nazi leadership, wth the exception of Reinhard Heydrich, was there.

Hitler killed the Jews for money and to finance his war on the world because Germany was bankrupt. He traded the Jews that where born in Germany birth certificate for loans to support his war and up keep his bankrupt county. If you need any more truth you got my email..... Jesus died standing on the truth, however, so many people embrace the oath of man to not follow GOD for the purpose to control all humanity.
Men of great power do not kill over feelings, they kill to maintain power..
Guess who gave Hitler the idea to kill the Jews? The Jewish bankers that Germany controlled the money of the world. They finance all wars, so they told Hitler to create a reason to kill the Jews so you can cash in on their birth certificates and save your country.
The Jews don't even talk bad about Hitler, They "The Jews with all the money" created the idea sold it to Hilter and at the end took his country and GOT all their money back with interest plus a county (Germany). For the love of money.......
Us americans are next.........
The National deficit has to be paid, and to bring that account to zero balance, to will UNITED NATIONS, FIMA, FEDERAL UNITED STATES of AMERICA all which is owned by the Super Power Jews will foreclose on with death by any means necessary....
