US Military overseas locations post WW2?

Other than embassy personnel, what countries today have military personnel based there **as a result of WW2?**

Off the top of my head are Canada, UK, Korea, Philippines, Japan, Germany, Spain, Italy, possibly Turkey...?

I am wondering if yes applies to Algeria, Morocco or any African countries;

if yes applies to Saudi Arabia or other Arabian countries;

if yes applies to any South American countries or protectorates?

It seems to me you are conflating WWII and the Cold War. The occupation of Germany, Italy, and Japan would have ended in the 1950s in the normal course of events, at the latest, and there was no reason to maintain American troops in those or any other countries as a result of the war ended in 1945.

I'm a Canadian; sorry to disappoint you, ole chap, but there are no USA troops stationed in Canada. That does not exclude the training missions in the high Arctic, the Brits come here to practice cold weather flying and maintenance, Aussies come here and a host of other Nato troops to train, joint manoveurs and such. But there are no foreign troops stationed here and there never will be.

The question is not about 'troops', it is about *military personnel*.

Chalk River in Canada - and many other facilities I am sure - must have US Military personnel assigned, albeit on rotating duty.

Joint training missions must be going on and ongoing elsewhere, don't you think?

I did mention joint maneuvers. I was trying to answer the original question:

Joint training exercises, rotation of military personnel went on even before WW2 and has continued after WW2. They didn't come here 'as a result of WW2'!

Interesting question, with many facets and interpretations. Since WWII so transformed the world, almost any personnel anywhere are a 'result of WWII.' But also their continued presence is also because of some totally different realities.

I will just hop & skip through several. I would suggest that you might get and read 'American Military Commitments Abroad' by Roland A. Paul, Rutgers University Press, 1973. It's specifics are dated, but gives some interesting philosophy. Troops might come into an area by war necessity. Some may wish to protest their presence / existance as an 'affront' on soverignity. But some countries have found that they have greatly added to the economy and overall level of job training and development, as well as improving overall relations.

Obviously for mutual advantage, the US was allowed bases in Canada & UK during WWII, their continued presence since was because of other realities and mutual advantage.

There is a book, Nuclear Battlefields by William Arkin (Ballinger, 1985) detailing U.S. military bases but outdated now. Algeria has French military forces. No U.S. bases in Africa, but mostly French like the French Foreign Legion and the Troupes de Marins. Mike

Xenophbia??? We are a sovereign country and will not abide foreign troops occupying our country. Like I said, joint maneuvers, leasing airbases in Labrador or the far north, that's different. Canada, is a member of NATO and NORAD and we mutually exchange officers and troops for all sorts of reasons that pertain to our responsibility as members of said military alliances. I am sure the Germans do not consider the Canadian and US troops in Canadian and US bases there as occupying forces. Germany invading Poland on September 1st, 1939; now those were occupying troops; they shot at my father and he spent 6 years in a POW camp in Germany. That's what occupying troops do. Which is what is also happening in certain countries today.

Would it be possible to have more details? What foreign troops have been stationed in Canada since 1941 as a result of WWII? Where are they stationed? I've talked to people in the history and poly sc depts. at the college where I teach and everybody is clueless.
