First let me start by saying that I’m not talking about the fundamentalists Islamic terrorism in particular.
It is just that if we survey the history of war not just in regards to the way that this or that battle was conducted but take a wider look on the context of the war, the reasons, the legitimacy, etc we can often see that what is considered right and wrong bad or evil are very relative to a certain context.
Every time a new movement for independence starts anywhere around the globe it is usually called terrorism and in treated as not legitimate for as long as possible and then usually the approach changes and many time this movement leads for a political change that years later seems self evident.
When people went to war against the unbelievers on the time of the crusaders they were considered doing a holy work of bringing the world of god to the world. when similar things are done by Muslims we protest and call them fundamentalist.
Don’t get me wrong I have no wishes to claim their attempts are legitimate I just claim that most religions attempt to expand and bring the words of gods to other people and places.
Why do we try to rescue people from perceived ignorance when they have no need or desire to share our belief system with them? I don’t have a good answer but I’m sure you’ll agree with me that many wars are not the mere product of real-politic considerations and there are many cases when people do stupid things and risk their lives for the most altruistic yet inappropriate reasons
