During WW2 America and the U.K. were allied with Russia against Germany as a matter of convenience as the Soviet regime was almost as evil as the Nazis having killed over thirty million of their own people during Stalins purges and enslaved huge ammounts in its Gulags.

In fact Russia was at first allied with Germany and invaded Poland from the East as part of a deal with them and during their occupation murdered thousands of Polish Army officers and intellectuals and buried them in a mass grave in the Katyn forest.(Known as the Katyn massacre)

They only started fighting the germans when their former allies attacked them.

In another thread this raised the question of what would have happened if the Western allies had been at war with both the soviets and the Nazis at the same time.

Has there ever been a situation historically where three(or more)nations/power blocs have been involved in a tripart war?

hmmmm top of my head a similar (of course very different, but had its similitudes) thing happened during the 30 year war. Catholic nations, led by the Habsburgs, vs Protestant Nations (with no clear lead). France stays out of the fray until the time is fit to stab Spain in the back.
They promptly did it, joined the protestant league and from then on it was a world of pain for the Habsburgs and catholic league overall. But France per itself, could be thought of as a third side more than a part of the side they fought for.

As for what could've happened had the Soviets and Nazis gone at war vs the allies...well one can only thank the lucky stats that didn't happen. UK probably would've gotten out of the war, USA would've been forced out of european matters; and then Hitler and Stalin would've fought their own private war for the supremacy on Europe. Only Lord knows who would've won that one, but the winner would've been the master of all europe.

Not pretty.
