Does anybody out there know of a good book dealing with the Eastern front from Barbarossa to the Fall of Berlin? A book that deals in the overall battles, their effects, etc.

I know nothing about the Eastern Front, and though this would be a good start. So far this newgroup has been a great source for finding useful books. I really hate spending $$$ only to find out the book needs more help than I do... Cheers, Dave

Two books which cover the eastern front very thoroughly are When Titans Clash and The Russo German War.

Try two: Alexander Werth - Russia at War - this covers the 1941 - 1945 period and was written by a British journalist (London Times I think) who spent the war years in Russia spoke the language (his family emigrated to Britain in 1910 ) and is well written. Werth covers the war details as well as the political strategy of the USSr and most important there are very good writeups done by interviewing civilians and soldiers during the war.

Alan Clark's Barbarossa is also good - desn't have the human element Werth has. Clark is the leader of the conservative party (Tory) in Britain
