Shortly after WWII (1948), the French sold the Haganah of Israel 120mm mortars. I know of no French 120mm mortar that was manufactured and used in WWII. Was this one a copy of the German (Russian) 120mm mortar or a completely new design. Anyone have the specs for it? Range, rate of fire, types and size bombs?

thanks Bob O'Connor (remove yada for email replies)

The Soviet 1938 120mm mortar was so successful that everyone copied it, starting with the Germans.

The French probably had no trouble laying their hands on some German mortars, manufacturing them, and selling them: after all, they did have to build a war industry from scratch, so they might as well copy some of the successful weapons instead of going for lousy ones just because they happened to be French-designed (they did a lot of that, too).

With minor modifications, that mortar is still in service today.
