The posting which the original subject line was Operation Pacific ( A movie) asked if a seane was correct and if it ever happened. It showed a US sub ramming an enemy ship and surviving.

I may have to spend some time in one or more Sub sites but I do recall reading info that would lead me to say 'yes' to both of your questions.

That is a true story.

The submarine was USS Growler and it rammed into a small Japanese freighter on the night of February 7, 1943, but not intentionally. The freighter turned to ram the sub. The skipper of the USS Growler was Commander Howard Gilmore who was wounded on the bridge by small arms fire. Realizing every second counted, Gilmore ordered his XO to 'take her down'. Gilmore received the Medal Of Honor posthumously for sacrificing himself to save his ship and crew.
