It seems to me I heard somewhere that Othmer wrote in article

You are correct; you did not identify it as DeWitt's. I'd appreciate an indication of the author, since DeWitt DID issue a 'Final Report' on the evacuation, and I apologize for the misstatement. Can you identify the 'they' you refer to as issuing the report?

You realize, I am sure, the estimates of the number of Kibei ranged from wild overstatements of 40,000 to 50,000 downward to Ringle's statement that there were 1200 to 1400 in Southern California, which would suggest a number around 5,000 for the entire West Coast.

Dorothy Thomas concluded that about one of every five Nisei was a Kibei; of 70,000 Nisei this would give about 14,000 Kibei. If half were females, there would be about 7,000 to 8,000 males, of which many were minors.

I wonder how many Final Reports the Army issued on the evacuation?

I was unaware that user names were a reliable guide to occupations; perhaps I should consider changing mine. OTOH, this does seem to be another case of painting an entire group with the same brush, doesn't

I have no idea, the information I have comes from 'The Army and Japanese Evacuation' which is part of a publication 'United States Army in World War WWII' written by a Yale History Prof. All they do is quote from among other things the 'United States War Department, Final Report: Japanese Evacuation from the West Coast 1942(Washington 1943)' No mention is made of 'DeWitt' being the author of the report.

It seems to me I heard somewhere that Don Kirkman wrote in article

A fairly extensive Web search (including the Army history pages and a failed attempt to reach the Library of Congress catalogs) failed to turn up a 'Final Report' dealing with the evacuation. I know it exists, so this was a failure of the Web, not a matter of nonexistent information.

However, I did find a brief bibliography that contained the following listing:

'U. S. Army. Final Report (Washington: Government Printing Office, 1943)'

Is this the Final Report you were referring to? If so, that is what I called DeWitt's Final Report, since it came out under his authority and report on his implementation of the evacuation; it was apparently released on June 5, 1943.
