I am searching for a map that shows southern France, particularly around Marseilles, at about 1942-1944. I need a map that shows roads in the area, and, if at all possible, where any German installations, if any, may have been located. I would appreciate if anyone could direct me to a source with this information and more. Please post to news group and copy it to my e-mail address.
Thank you

There was recently a request under this topic for maps of Southern France in the area where the Anvil operations occurred. Hanging on the wall in my office is a 1:200,000 scale map of the Normandy area. It is actually a 'reimpresion' of a 1947 Michelin (apparently, they do more than tires) road map of the area. Superimposed on it are landing zones, cemetaries, dates of occupation, etc. I don't know if there is a similar map of S. France, but it does make a great conversation piece for WW II buffs. I recomend it.

The National Archives in College Park MD has a cartography section with an extensive collection of maps in various scales from the World War II period. I've been able to get copies of 1:25,000 maps of almost the entire Ardennes region of Belgium and Luxembourg from their collection; they also have 1:50,000 and 1:100,000 maps of most areas of Europe. I'm sure they'll have a good selection of Southern France maps left over from Operation Anvil.

I would suspect that H.R. Kedward's In Search of the Maquis, which is about the Maquis in the southern zone between 1942 and 1944, will have quite a few pertinent maps.
