I've searched online for web-sites that would allow a search to locate the records of a soldier (a U.S. army officer stationed in England) from WW II. So far all I've found are web-sites for veterans of a few particular military units, through the U.S. Army web-site. I've tried Ala-Vista, Yahoo, Hot-bot search engines.
Can anyone help by suggesting where a data-bank would be, to locate the record (or anything) about a U.S. army soldier discharged around 1945-46?

Hi,
This information is from 'Family Tree Maker,' a genealogy reference. Hope it helps in your search. I am likewise trying to track down an Australian soldier. Good luck with your search.
Regards,

There are numerous places to send for records of wwii veterans. I have been researching my grandfathers career as a pilot of a b24 liberator based at Hardwick in Norwich England for about five years now.
The addresses are:
Reference Services: Records for Research Purposes:
National Archives Building 700 Pennsylvania Ave. NW Washington, DC (202)501-5400
National Personnel Records Center Military Personnel Records 9700 Page Avenue St. Louis, MO 63132-5100 *at this address to obtain service records (201 file) you will need their Standard 180 form.
Textual Reference Branch National Archives II 8601 Adelphi Road College Park, MD 20740-6001
Let me know how you did.
sincerely
vicky M.
