Look for books with 'home front' in the title e.g. Briggs, Susan The Home Front McGraw-Hill 1975 also 'social histories' (cf. Penguin series on Britain) also narratives by historians interested in these topics like Arthur Marwick.

Everything you could possibly need is in THE PEOPLE'S WAR by Angus Calder. Originally published by Johnathan Cape in 1969, and re-published in the UK by Pimlico a few years back. It's out of print in the US but amazon.co.uk should have it. And it's a great read.
