Hi all from a newbie
I am researching my fathers naval career during World War II.
Looking at his service records, he served with the following Ships/Bases
HMS Impregnable Oct 41 to Jul 42 Land base at Devonport
HMS Drake Jul 42 Land base at Devonport
HMS Dundonald II Aug 42 Land base at Troon, Scotland
HMS Dinosaur Aug 42 to Aug 43 Land base at Troon, Scotland
HMS Copra Sep 43 to Aug 44 Comb Ops Pay Ratings and Accounts. Troon
HMS Drake Aug 44 to Mar 45 Land base at Devonport
HMS Dundonald Mar 45 to Apr 45 Land base at Troon, Scotland
HMS Copra Apr 45 Comb Ops Pay Ratings and Accounts. Troon

However, I know he was on a LCT(R) Landing Craft Tank (Rocket) on D day. It had a miss fire on the second salvo and he was one of four survivors. He also has the Atlantic, Africa and Burma Stars.
Can anyone explain this?
Many thanks in anticipation
Mick

Mick, welcome to the forum

I don't understand. Didn't your father tell you about it himself or did it never come up?

He didnt like talking about it. when he started with dementia thats when he spoke about it although very confusingly. The information I have about d day is from a radio recording in 1984 for the 40th anniversary of d day when he went to France.

That's so frustrating But, I can relate to that - having had a father that survived the concentrations camps while not even being jewish (or gypsy) - and never talk about it (only after his death my uncle, his brother, told me some)

I hope there are people out there that can shed a light on this. It is for your peace of mind. Pity our parents didn't think that was important as well...
