Someone recently posted the words to 'Panzer rollen in Afrika Korps' and many thanks, but there was another Afrika Korps song called 'Heia Safari!' which uses the analogy that the AK is a hunter in Africa stalking the British Lion, etc. I have a recording, but it is tough to make out all but a few of the words.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Panzer rollen in Afrika *vor*.

The song 'Wie oft sind wir geschritten ..' with the refrain 'Heia Safari' refers to the old, peacefull days before WW I , when expeditions where made in Africa. This song is a bit older than AK. I just reread the text , but hunting, especially lions, isn't mentioned. You can find descriptions of a fascinating, foreign landscape, of camp fires and such things in that song.

I'm not aware, that this song got a aggressive, political text during WW II, but it might happened.

Like most other folk songs you can find this song up to now in the song book of the todays Bundeswehr.

Heia Safari

[Marschlied der deutschen Afrika Kampfer]

Wohlan durch Wüstensand
und heißen Sonnenbrand
Hebt jetzt ein großes Jagen an
mit lautem Halali,
Die Jäger, die sind wir;
im weiten Jagdrevier;
Das deutsche Korps in Afrika
heia heia Safari!
Und wenn auch noch so wild
der brit'sche Löwe brüllt,
Es nützt ihm nichts sein großes Maul,
Wir jagen ihn zu Tod.
Denn Jäger, die sind wir
im weiten Jagdrevier;
Das deutsche Korps in Afrika
heia heia Safari!
Und ist die Heimat weit
und ist auch heiß der Streit,
wir schlagen, wo auch immer wir
dich treffen Engeland.
Und Sieger, die sind wir
im weiten Weltrevier;
Das deutsche Korps in Afrika
heia heia Safari!
