Yes, I agree with that. The Dam Busters is the story of Wing Commander Guy Gibson and the raid on the Ruehr dams in 1943 which caused widespread flooding in the Ruehr valley. Gibson led the attack with Avro Lancasters flying 60 ft. (thats six zero feet!) off the surface of the water. The unit was 617 Squadron R.A.F. They used the bouncing bomb developed by a British scientist. Besides the raid, the movie shows the development and testing of that bomb.

There is some actual film footage of the 2 busted dams, and the resultant flooding. There is also some realistic flying scenes that are excellent. Its in black and white, made, I think, in the early 50's (back when more attention to true historical fact was pursued and used in WW II movies!).

I know its available at the retail level, but don't know if its available as a video rental. Probably is by now. If for no other reason, view the movie to see a whole group of 'Lancs' flying in a line formation. We'll never see those kinds of bomber groups again.

On Foreign WW2 Movies I dont know if anyone has seen it, 'Das Boot' or The Boat, its a Germany film about a German Uboat Captain and his crew, very intresting story, it was a great movie and it was very good at telling the story of a Uboat Mission(s). Its a real easy movie to find, and I dont think you will be dissappointed at seeing this movie.
