IF THE NORMANDY INVASION REPRESENTED THE BEGINNING OF THE LIBERATION OF FRANCE WHY DID NO MAJOR FRENCH FORMATION PARTICIPATE ? I AM AWARE THAT A SMALL FRENCH COMMANDO UNIT WAS PRESENT AND THAT THE FREE FRENCH LATER LANDED IN SOUTHERN FRANCE. WHY DID THE AMERICANS, CANADIANS, AND BRITISH HAVE TO DO ALL THE BLEEDING FOR FRANCE ?

Because winning your enemy from within is very bloody difficult if that enemy has all the power and control over you. The Americans, Canadians did 'all the work' for France isn't exactly the right conclusion. France was part of a larger project that included the whole of Europe. And, as you might know, Europe was and is a strategic object (due to all the obvious reasons)

NEVER THE LESS DEGAUL HAD THE FORCES AND THE EGO. IS THERE ANY RECORD THAT HE DEMANDED THAT AT LEAST ONE FRENCH DIVISION BE INCLUDED IN THE INVASION ? HE CERTAINLY WANTED A FRENCH DIVISION TO BE THE FIRST TO ENTER PARIS.

I have never read of any serious consideration by Eisenhower of anything other than British, Canadian and US divisions being in the first wave. French and Polish divisions were part of the later operations to break out from the Normandy beachhead.

While I do not know it for a fact, I think it is likely that given the complexities and risk involved in the Normandy landings, Eisenhower and his senior advisors concluded that adding in the further complication of multiple languages would have endangered the operation. The French Resistance was involved in supporting the landings.
