The Soviet regime always underplayed the Western allies participation and achievememts and presented themselves to their population as virtually fighting the war single handedly(Ironically against their former allies who they carved up Poland with).
When Stalin repeatedly defamed the allies for not sending him any assistance( in spite of the large amounts of equipments that they were giving to him at a great cost in life from convoys under attack in Arctic seas),the U.S. lost patience and said that unless Stalin started telling the truth no more supplies would be sent.
Only then did he change his tune.
