I have come across two references to "strayed cannon" in articles on the War of the Pacific. Allied army at Tacna reportedly had an unspecified number of 4" strayed cannon and the Chilean vessel replaced previous artillery with 12 40 pound staryed cannon and four 40 pound Whitworths.

Does anyone know what the heck a "strayed cannon" is/was?

Interesting question. I never paid much notice as to what it might be but now you mention it... Perhaps someone having battle experience will know.
