I'm very interested in the 487th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force during World War II. I'm building a database that can perhaps become a resource for the 487th historical association (members are those who served in the group), and the Auxiliary (those related to those who served and others with interest in the group).

Are there records of those who served military groups (the 487th specifically) that are available, from the government or other sources? I'd like to incorporate such data into the groups database. If any such records are available in machine readable form that would be best!

The 487th was part of the 2nd Air Division when it flew B-24s from Lavenham in Suffolk before becoming part of the 3rd AD on conversion to B-17s in July 1944. The 2nd Air Division USAAF Memorial Library in Norwich, England may hold records that are of interest. Their address is:-

The 2nd Air Division USAAF Memorial Library, Temporary Central Lending Library, Old Glasswells Building, 71, Ber St., Norwich NR1 3AD, England

(the 'temporary' in the address is due to a major fire three years ago!).
