Iraq’s archaeological treasures are being looted on a daily basis.
This satellite photo is rather old from five years ago but the damage that is being caused to the ancient buried cities in Iraq that was reported years ago is still very much active problem.
The History Blog is covering the issue for sometime now but now a recent delegation of archaeologists returned from Iraq after visiting few sites without any proof of such looting. As it is posted correctly the delegation sort of missed the purpose by visiting only the secure sites as the looting is usually when security doesn’t exists.
It is not that the Iraqi are so fond of archeology, in case you were wondering some of the money for the antiquities finds its way to terror organizations.
