Dear Sir;
My father-in-law serviced in the US Army during World War II. He trained with the 69th Div as an anti-tank gun crew member in the US. He was sent to Italy in May 1944 and land in Naples. He was in a Replacement Depot and assigned to the Anti-tank Company of the 473d Infantry Regiment. The 473d was attached to the 93d infantry Division in Jan 1945.
He is desirous of obtaining information regarding the combat operations of the 473d Infantry, in particular he would like to obtain the documentation that indicates that the 473d Infantry assaulted and captured Mt Belvedere (the mountain Northwest of Florence, Italy) and were forced off the mountain during the night by heavy German counteracts which destroyed the five Sherman M4 Medium Tanks that accompanied his unit to the top of the mountain. He has indicated that out of a unit of approximately 80 soldiers he and approximately 13 others climb down the mountain and returned to the town of Vitacatico.
His concerns are that the 10th Mountain Div has received recognition for the capture of the mountain and there is no information regarding the 473d combat operation against the Mt Belvedere.
I would be extremely grateful if you could direct this message our me to a potential source of information concerning this matter.

There is a book entitled 'Battle History 473rd United States Infantry' being offered for sale by the Fourth Street Book Shop, of Royal Oaks, Michigan that might contain the information you are seeking. It might be worth while to contact them by email before ordering, it being fairly
Good luck.

The 93rd Infantry Division served in the South Pacific, and I couldn't find any mention of a 473rd Infantry Regiment in my source
